FFL transfers are available by appointment only. Advance notice is required.
There is a single $25 transfer fee (paid in cash or check) for up to three serialized items. Additional items (4+) are $5 each. For example, the total fee to transfer five firearms would be $35 ($25 + $5 + $5). There is no fee for delivery of non-serialized items (e.g. magazines, ammo, etc.).
Any item classified by the ATF as a firearm requires a 4473 and counts toward the total. This includes both complete handguns, rifles, and shotguns as well as serialized parts such as AR-15 lower receivers.
A NICS background check is required for all transfers, unless you have a valid North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit. (Concealed carry permits from other states cannot be used.)
To complete a transfer, you must provide valid (unexpired) government-issued identification which shows the following information:
Name
Date of birth
Current residence
Photograph
Please allow 24 hours for processing after your item(s) are delivered. Firearm acquisitions must be recorded before a transfer can be processed.
If items are not picked up within 15 days of delivery, a storage fee of $20 per week will be assessed, unless prior arrangements are made. If you expect to be out of town for an extended period, just let me know prior to placing an order and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
If the dealer with whom you've placed an order does not already have our FFL on file, please email me to let me know where to send it. Please include the order number you received from the dealer.
I am not currently licensed to conduct NFA transfers.

FAQ
All firearms purchased online must be shipped from the dealer to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder in your state. This can be a retail firearms or sporting goods store, or a small home-based FFL (like me). The FFL and buyer together complete ATF form 4473, and the FFL runs the required background check before the buyer can take ownership of the firearm.
Bear in mind that the FFL conducting a transfer is not selling you the gun. You paid the online dealer: Your FFL they doesn't profit from that sale. The fee they charge compensates them for their time and effort spent on the following:
Accepting the shipment
Logging the acquisition & disposition of the firearm (required by the ATF)
Storing the firearm securely
Completing form 4473
Submitting and verifying the background check
Assuming liability for completing the transfer legally
Most transfers take around 15-20 minutes, with completion of the 4473 (the ATF form for transferring firearms) comprising the bulk of the time. A NICS background check (where needed) may take additional time. In the event of a substantial NICS delay, you are welcome to return later to complete the transfer after the background check completes successfully.
No. I charge a fee only for transfer conducted on behalf of another dealer.
Yes. Regardless of whether you’re transferring a gun you bought online or are buying in-person from a retail store, every firearm sale requires the same form 4473 and background check (where not exempt) be completed by the FFL for the transfer to be legal.
No. It’s the same exact system and process used by retail stores.
Only a valid, unexpired North Carolina concealed handgun permit qualifies a transfer as exempt from a background check. If your permit is expired (even if you have a renewal pending), the transer will require a NICS background check.
